6 Tips on How to Rock a Healthy Holiday Season Before it Rocks You

6 Tips on how to rock a healthy holiday season before it rocks you:

  1. Holiday parties? Eat before you go. If you know it’s going to be a plethora of cheese & cracker plates and delicious dairy dips, fill up on a smoothie or a full on meal before you go. You will be less likely to splurge and make poor decisions on a full stomach.
  2. Now is the time to smoothie it up! There is no better time than the holidays when you are short on time to implement smoothies. Have two a day to really beat down the inflammation and shed some toxins…oh, and some weight. No brainer. If I’m driving, I take my nutribullet with me. When I am staying in hotels, I call ahead to make sure they have a fridge or I request one as most of them have at least a few. Then, go shopping when you get there. I do sometimes fly with my bullet:) If you still don’t have my 9 smoothies to change your life, click here to pick up my smoothie book
  3. Water, water, water! When all else fails, drink your water. Get your container, or maybe 2 smaller ones, that hold half your weight in water(in ounces). If you weigh 150 lbs. you want to drink 75 oz. of water each day. This is really simple. Drink water and you likely won’t want that next cup of coffee, cocktail, or Xmas cookie.
  4. “Shoo Shoo Nite Nite” This term for “I’m hitting the hay” was adopted from my sweet mom, the words of the wise one. Wind down an hour before bed; that means no electronics, no lights on phones/laptops, TVs, etc…(not adopted from my mother who loved TV and popcorn in bed…ah Sharon Lou!) Turn it all off and start your nighttime routine. The highest quality of sleep is from 10pm to 12pm, so catch as much as you can to minimize your stress the next day, lose weight, and feel your best.
  5. Travel with food. This means travel with an apple in your purse (reach for that first), and a gluten-free protein bar (I love the new ones at Trader Joe’s). Don’t get stuck out running errands and subject to a fast food break thru. If you’re flying, consider packing some hormone free salami or pre-cooked bacon. You can sprinkle it on your salad you purchase at the airport and you can avoid the hormones of conventional meat. It’s a great way to get some protein and it is light and packs well. Remember, if you pack nuts you need even more water to digest the nuts, and then you’re flying, so more water because we naturally get dehydrated at higher elevations, and more water. You get the point. Nuts: not a great option.
  6. Decaf is still caf! Try some decaf to take your heart and mind down a notch. Just weave a little in your morning coffee and watch your emotions, heartbeat, and reactions all lessen. Must be organic because of the processing of coffee beans, and well, I travel with a small ziplock of decaf because most people don’t have it.
I hope you’ve found a tip or two to provide more ease and help make your holidays less stressful. Post below, I would love to hear your comments!
